Tony and I hope that you enjoyed the field days as much as we did. Also that you gained some useful material and ideas to progress fieldwork in the future. Perhaps the most exciting day was the final one on Monday 4th April when the moment we arrived at the Sime River a deluge of rain followed and continued for the entire time we were there. This caused the river to rise alarmingly and we saw at first hand the effect of the ensuing flood. Everyone entered into the spirit of it despite the weather. Click here to go to the images.
Other days included:
1. An introduction to fieldwork techniques using school grounds
Teachers in the grounds of the Singapore Chinese Girls School
2. The Mangrove Ecosystem: using it as a resource in the teaching of geography and biology.

Teachers surveying % frequency of plants at Sungei Buloh
3. The Coast: surveying rocky shores for zonation and species adaptations; coastal geography and protection

Teachers on the shore at Labrador Park
4. The Coast: using seashores in Primary Schools

Teachers at Labrador Park at low tide on 1st April.
5. Freshwater fieldwork for Primary schools

Teachers at the Sime River being shown how to measure stream channels
This was the 7th In Service training course for teachers in Singapore. We will be returning in a year's time but in the meantime if you are interested in contacting us for more information on INSET please email me or Tony.
Until next year, thanks for your hospitality.
Julian
